November 11 was designated as a national holiday in 1938, and unlike Memorial Day, Veterans Day honors all veterans who have provided honorable service to our country during war or peacetime through military service. As a thank-you for their service, veterans are honored with free entry into federal recreation areas as well as discounts across the Nation’s Vacation portfolio of hotels.
Free Entry to National Parks
The National Park Service in partnership with Operation Live Well offers all US Military Veterans, current Military and their dependents the Interagency Annual Military Pass, which provides free access to more than 2,000 federal recreation areas, which include all National Parks. In addition to the National Park Service, other participating federal agencies include the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, US Fish and Wildlife Service, US Forest Service and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
In National Parks with an admission fee, the veteran simply needs to present a veteran ID card or a veteran’s designation on their state-issued driver’s license to obtain free entrance. Veterans may also obtain a free Military Pass online through the USGS store (a $10 processing fee applies.)
Military and Veteran Hotel Discounts
All veterans and active military are also invited to take advantage of special discounts at these hotels in the Nation’s Vacation portfolio. Proof of service must be provided at check-in.
