The fascinating interplay of lights, shadows, textures, and colors as the light bounces around Antelope Canyon makes it a photographer’s dream—almost anywhere you point, there’s a National Geographic-worthy snapshot right in front of your lens. The sandstone canyon is very narrow, with high canyon walls to your left and right, and snaking through this winding place feels unlike any other landscape in the world.
The canyon is only accessible through guided tours.
By the time you’re finished exploring Antelope Canyon, around lunchtime, you’ll have plenty of time to make it to Horseshoe Bend, located just a short drive away, near Page, Arizona. When you get to the trailhead, it’s a short, 1.5 mile hike to the bend, which offers one of the most spectacular and iconic views in Lake Powell, and the American Southwest. If you prefer, you can drive all the way and park near the lookout.
The overlook climbs 1000 feet above the Colorado River, and provides an impressive example of the forces of nature working to carve out this “horseshoe” in the sandstone.
