Wawona Golf Course

Established in 1918, the Wawona Golf Course is truly one of a kind, with varied terrain, a picture-perfect backdrop, and holes to challenge all levels of golfer. The course is located just outside Yosemite National Park and on the grounds of the Wawona Hotel, making it convenient to get to and play.

The Wawona Golf Course is a 9- or 18-hole, 3000-yard course that’s been designed to blend into the surrounding meadow and countryside. The course pays homage to its natural surroundings by doubling as a bird sanctuary, so as you play, you’re sure to spot some wild birds and enjoy their songs as the background to your game. The course is also one of the only organic golf courses in the United States, using only reclaimed gray water to keep the lawns green and lush.

With the beautiful surroundings of Yosemite National Park, it’s no wonder this golf course is a favorite of golfers of all levels. As you play, you’ll be surrounded by massive trees and sweeping meadows. Even if you have a couple of bad swings, the breathtaking surroundings are sure to pull you right out of your funk.

Operating Season
The Wawona Golf Course is open from June until September, as long as conditions permit.

Cost
If you’re interested in spending some time out on the green, you’ll be happy to know the cost is reasonable. Green fees vary from weekday to weekend, but range between $20 and $40. You can also rent an electric cart, pull cart, and clubs for an additional fee.

Amenities
At the Wawona Golf Course, you’ll find everything you need for a great game of golf. If you forgot something, head over to the golf shop for rental clubs, gear, and great food. The shop also provides golfers with access to electric and caddie cart rentals. There is a putting green on site.

Grab a Drink at the 19th Hole

When the game is done and you’re ready to retire for the afternoon, head over to the Wawona Hotel Dining Room. Here, you’ll find antique charm, hand-painted lamps, and a summertime veranda where you can sit outside to enjoy some snacks and beverages. The dining room has light bites such as the crispy wedge salad and hearty eats such as the Wawona burger, the California BLT, or a New York steak.

Where to Stay: Wawona Hotel

Established in 1856 as one of California’s original mountain resorts, the Wawona Hotel is known for its intimate Victorian charm. The hotel has 50 hotel rooms with private bathrooms, and 54 hotel rooms with shared bathrooms. Located just 27 miles from Yosemite Valley, the hotel puts guests in close proximity to the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias.

On site, you’ll find a dining room which serves three meals a day, live music in the lounge, a swimming pool, sun room, and stables where you can book time for horseback riding.

Fishing
Not only can you enjoy the awe-inspiring scenery of Yosemite National Park, you can also fish there. With year-round fishing on offer, it doesn’t even matter which season you’re planning to visit. The crystal-clear lakes and rivers are teeming with rainbow and brown trout. While much of the fishing is catch and release, there are some sizes and species of fish you can keep.

Guided Bus Tours

Yosemite is a massive national park. If you’re short on time but want to make sure you see as much as you can, book a seat on a guided bus tour. Tours are guided so you can learn about the local flora and fauna as well as the indigenous and non-indigenous settlers of this area.

Valley Floor Tour

This two-hour bus tour takes visitors to see all of the highlights of Yosemite while a guide shares information about the park’s plant and animal life, as well as some history. This tour is available year-round. In the summer, visitors will ride in open-air trams and heated coaches in the winter.

Horseback Riding
If you want to see the park up-close and personal, head down to the Wawona Stables to book a horse or mule riding tour. These two hour rides take visitors along the trails of Yosemite so you can see the sites in comfort. No prior riding experience necessary!
