High Sierra Camps

Yosemite National Park

True backcountry camping nestled high in the wilderness

All the fun of backpacking trips, without that annoying heavy backpack filled with tents and cooking gear. This is the appeal of the Yosemite High Sierra Camps. Only accessible by foot (or by mule, believe it or not), once you arrive you’ll be free to explore the backcountry for as long as you like—having a basecamp allows you to do that. Camps are spaced 6 to 10 miles apart along a loop trail. Guided mule trips and hiking trips are available.

Property Description

Dining
Family-style breakfasts and dinners with your fellow campers are hosted each night at Yosemite’s High Sierra Camps. Box lunches are also available, for those looking for a small something to get them through a day on the trial.

Amenities
A true luxury for any backcountry experience, showers are available at Merced Lake, May Lake and Sunrise Camps (subject to water availability). After you return from your day of adventuring, clean up with a nice shower and enjoy a hearty meal, before the ranger-led campfire conversations about the surrounding wilderness.

These camps are available only by lottery.

Glen Aulin Camp
Glen Aulin High Sierra Camp is located at an elevation of 7,800 feet above sea level, nestled next to a magnificent waterfall and pool on the Tuolumne River.

May Lake Camp
May Lake High Sierra Camp offers incredible views mountain wilderness and May Lake. Your days will be filled with fishing and relaxing or perhaps a summit attempt of the geographic center of Yosemite National Park, Mount Hoffman, which is reflected in the lake.

Sunrise Camp
Sunrise Camp is well named as it boasts some of the most incredible and dazzling sunrises in the world. The Camp faces Mt. Florence and Mt. Clark beyond, and sits next to a beautiful alpine meadow. Sunrise High Sierra Camp is the last camp on the fifty-mile High Sierra Camp Loop.

Merced Lake Camp
The original High Camp at Yosemite, and the most remote. Located near Merced Lake, hikers tend to stay awhile and enjoy swimming, fishing and restful days along its shore.

Vogelsang Camp
The highest High Sierra camp, at nearly 2 miles. Vogelsang is a great basecamp for hikes to the surrounding alpine lakes, including Evelyn Lake, Ireland Lakes, Booth Lake, Emeric Lake, and Vogelsang Lake.

Wonderful! Camping in backpacking territory without carrying equipment! Plus great fresh food cooked and cleaned up after by the hosts!! Best location ever with streams, waterfalls, pools at their base, stunning vistas of rocky crags.
