Snowshoeing in Yosemite

Snowshoeing in Yosemite

Snowshoeing is a great winter activity for any avid explorer. Over the past few years this ancient pastime has become more accessible and easier than ever, with lighter and lighter snowshoes that fit snug and easily over normal boots, allowing individuals a simpler entry point into this winter activity. In Yosemite’s winters, snowshoeing is one of the best ways to explore the backcountry.

There are two guided snowshoeing adventures within Yosemite’s borders. They both offer a uniquely beautiful way to experience this land.

The 6-hour Adventure Snowshoe Hike to Dewey Point brings you through the meadows and beautiful pine and fir filled forests toward Dewey Point, an epic overlook where on a clear day you’ll see incredible views of El Capitan, Half Dome, Mt. Hoffman, Mr. Conness, and the Clark Mountain Range.

If you’re looking for something a little more uniquely beautiful and mystical, the 2-hour Full Moon Snowshoe Hike is a short jaunt through the Badger Pass Ski Area with the full moon overhead, casting an eerily beautiful glow over the snowy landscapes. The tour begins at 7pm and runs until 9pm, so don’t worry about having to go in the absolute dead at night. Plenty of time afterward for a full night’s sleep.

Both activities can be reserved at Yosemite Valley Lodge.
