The trailhead is 28 miles on the Elliott Highway outside of Fox. It is clearly marked with a great parking area. A maintained outhouse facility is on the far side of the parking lot and is highly recommended before hitting the actual trail.
The trail comes to a T about a mile in. If you turn left you head off into the White Mountains via the Wickersham Dome trail. The Dome is about three miles in, but the Summit Trail continues on and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and mountains.
We did this in late fall and hiked about four and a half miles into this Alaskan wonderland and set up camp on a hillside. The sunset was incredible and in the morning we were visited by an neighboring owl. The trail was well maintained and the views were incredible. The terrain is decorated with alpine flowers and unique vegetation.
