Home is where the pack is.
Grand vistas. Trail markers. Having your life on your back. Placing footfalls where maybe, just maybe, no human has ever stepped before. Backpacking gives us that “small step for man, giant leap for mankind” kind of feeling. With only a backpack, in places like Yosemite and Denali and all of our National Parks and protected lands, we find out real fast what isn’t essential.
On the trails, with our backpacking partners, so much of what we find “normal” and “civilized” day to day is stripped away. The deck of playing cards and book we bring, usually pushed aside by what’s easier—streaming movies and shows—now provide hours of fulfilling entertainment with loved ones. All of our day-to-day problems are given a new perspective. Life on the trails backpacking grounds us and reboots us. And, with friends, it’s a whole load of fun.
